Department of Homeland Security – Federal Protective Service (SGIM)
Before any contract security guard can work on a DHS FPS contract, they must have required training and meet federal and state qualifications. This training is required and specific in its entirety as it is in the best interest of the Government. All contract guards must be trained in the FPS Security Guard Information Manual as this is an essential component of this training course. It is incumbent upon the instructors to notify the Academy of instances where students are not adequately mastering the subject matter or are presenting a disruption to the class by repeated lateness, absences, or disruptive behavior that the student may not be suitable for holding a position as security guard at a Federal facility.
This course is designed to fulfill the training requirement set by the Department of Homeland Security for personnel seeking positions as security guards on any Federal facility. There will be at a minimum 72 hours of instruction. This course is intense and loaded with valuable information for those security personnel seeking to be successful. Upon successful completion of this course, the student is in a position to further pursue a position as a security guard on a Federal facility.
